It has genuine evidence behind it for depressed acne scars, including randomised controlled trials — more than most aesthetic treatments can say. It improves the appearance of scarring over a series; it does not erase scars, and results vary by scar type, skin and how consistently the plan is followed.
Depressed (atrophic) scars generally respond best. Raised or keloid scars, and skin with active acne, need individual evaluation and may call for a different approach entirely. Your provider will tell you which category yours falls into.
A series is planned rather than promised. Collagen remodelling is gradual, so progress is assessed over months, and your provider will set a realistic schedule after seeing your skin.
A numbing step is used for comfort and most people tolerate it well. Afterwards the skin feels tight and looks flushed, similar to a mild sunburn.
For the first 24 hours avoid makeup, heat, strenuous exercise and direct sun. For several days use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and SPF 30+, and pause retinoids, acids and scrubs until fully healed. Full instructions are on our microneedling aftercare page.
Usually not in the same visit. Active inflammatory acne is generally settled first — sometimes with Forever Clear BBL — before a scar series begins.
