A photofacial treats what shows up as colour in the skin. The Sciton® platform is FDA-cleared for benign pigmented lesions — dyschromia, hyperpigmentation, freckles and age spots — and for benign cutaneous vascular lesions including facial telangiectasias, the erythema of rosacea, angiomas and poikiloderma of Civatte. It is the option that addresses visible redness and small vessels as well as brown spots, which is what separates it from the other paths on the platform.

Visible colour: brown spots, freckles, uneven pigment, facial redness, the erythema of rosacea, small visible vessels and angiomas. If your main concern is texture, pores or fine lines, microneedling is the more appropriate route at Glow — those are not cleared indications for the lasers we use.
BBL is Sciton's BroadBand Light system. It works on the same broad principle as IPL but with tighter filtering and cooling control. Treatments are performed with the Sciton® platform, which is FDA-cleared for the indications listed above.
Most people describe a quick warm snap, often compared to a rubber band, with cooling at the handpiece. Brown spots typically darken over the following days and flake away; redness usually settles within hours to a day.
Providers sometimes plan them together, since BBL addresses visible redness and vessels while MOXI is a fractional laser used for benign pigmented lesions. Whether a combination is appropriate is decided at an in-person assessment.
It depends on how much pigment or redness is present and how your skin responds. Your provider will recommend a schedule after seeing your skin rather than promising a set number.
Recent sun exposure or a tan, some medications, and certain medical or pigment histories can make treatment inappropriate or require different settings. That is exactly what the consultation is for.
